I’ve been running Home Assistant with over 200 devices for a while now, and one feature that I find incredibly useful is the energy dashboard. By analyzing the power consumption patterns of my smart devices, I’ve been able to identify areas where I can optimize my energy usage. For example, I noticed that my TV was consuming around 20 watts of power even when it was turned off, thanks to its standby mode. By switching to a smart plug with a built-in timer, I was able to turn off the TV completely when not in use and save around 0.5 kWh per day. Similarly, I found that my computer was consuming around 50 watts of power when idle, so I set up a script to put it into sleep mode after 30 minutes of inactivity.
